报告人:加拿大Carleton大学Jie LIU 博士/副教授

讲座人介绍 :Dr. Jie (Peter) Liu obtained his B.Eng. in Electronics and Precision Engineering from Tianjin University (China) in 1998, his M.Sc. in Control Engineering from Lakehead University (Canada) in 2005, and his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Waterloo (Canada) in 2008. Prior to his graduate studies, he worked at Invensys Controls Inc as a Product Engineer and then Production Manager for three years.  Before joining Carleton, he worked as an Postdoctoral Fellow in the Dept. of Mechanical Engineering at UC Berkeley for one and half years, working on the development of a regularized auxiliary particle filtering technique for nonlinear non-Gaussian system state estimation; during this period, he also conducted collaborative research with NASA Ames Research Center for remaining useful life prediction of lithium ion batteries. Dr. Liu is currently an Associate Professor in the Dept. of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering at Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada. He has been engaged in interdisciplinary research in the areas of machine condition monitoring and failure prognostics, intelligent mechatronic systems, vibration control, intelligent systems, and power storage for about thirteen years. His research results have been disseminated through over 30 journal publications and 20 conference papers. He has been honored to receive France-Canada Research Award, NSERC Postdoctoral Fellowship, NSERC Postgraduate Scholarship, Governor General’s Gold Medal, as well as a number of other provincial and institutional awards. Dr. Liu is a Steering Committee Member of Annual IEEE PHM Conferences, an IEEE Senior Member, and a registered Professional Engineer in Ontario, Canada.

报告概要:Dr. Jie (Peter) Liu is working on “Intelligent Systems in Sensing, Diagnostics, Prognostics, and Control”, with research efforts devoted to the following four directions: 1) Machinery Condition Monitoring and Health Management. This research endeavors to develop advanced diagnostic and prognostic techniques to improve system reliability in various safety-critical applications, e.g., gas turbine engines, gearboxes, battery systems, and auxiliary power units. 2) Intelligent Lithium Ion Battery Management Systems. This research aims to develop advanced lithium ion battery thermal/electrical/health management systems for more reliable, more efficient, more compact, lighter weight, and longer cycle life energy storage. 3) Intelligent Mechatronic Systems. This research contains two thrusts. The first thrust aims to develop a self-contained roadway power harvesting system for vehicle kinetic energy recovery, and the second thrust intends to develop an intelligent and powerful robotic vacuum that possesses the functionalities in mapping, planning, and memory and can really mimic the way an adult person does cleaning. 4) Magnetic Sensor and Smart Sensing. This research intends to develop next-generation super-sensitive low-field magnetic sensors. Based on the emerging quantum tunneling technology, the sensors to be developed will possess the potential to replace the currently-existing eddy current sensors thanks to their advantages of high sensitivity, small size, low cost, and low power consumption. During the talk, these research works will be briefly discussed.
